Both Lobos BUAP and Tigres UANL had the lead at one time or another in this one, but in the end they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The result keeps both teams winless in three, although the draw also keeps Lobos unbeaten in five.
The Licántropos unexpectedly took the lead just before halftime thanks to a handball by Luis Rodríguez. Referee Diego Montaño consulted VAR before awarding the penalty kick, which Leonardo Ramos took and scored to give Lobos the 0-1 lead in the 43rd minute.
But Tigres reacted in the second half, with substitute Julián Quiñones coming on and having an immediate impact against his former team. In the 57th minute, Javier Aquino tried his luck with a shot from outside the box that Toño Rodríguez saved – but the keeper spilled the ball and Quiñones pounced on the rebound to make it 1-1.
Then, in the 78th minute, Quiñones scored again in similar circumstances, finishing off the rebound from a shot from distance, this time by André-Pierre Gignac, to make it 2-1 for Tigres.
But just when it looked like Tigres would walk away with the three points, Lobos won a free kick. They sent the ball into the box and Francisco Rodríguez headed it past Nahuel Guzmán to make it 2-2 in the 86th minute.
The play was reviewed by VAR due to the question of a foul, but in the end the goal stood as Tigres and Lobos split the spoils.
With the 2-2 draw, Tigres reach 20 points while Lobos reach 13.
