Chivas de Guadalajara earned a victory by the minimum difference as they beat León 0-1. The result snaps a six-game winless streak for El Rebaño, while La Fiera suffered their fifth consecutive home loss and are winless in three overall.
León controlled possession in the early going as they looked to bring their poor home form to a halt. They had their first good chance in the 12th minute, when Mauro Boselli got into a good position, but he couldn’t get the contact right.
In the 20th minute, Isaác Brizuela tried his luck from distance for Chivas, but his shot ended up going harmlessly over the bar.
Chivas then had a penalty shout in the 39th minute, when it seemed Miguel Herrera may have committed a handball inside the box, but after consulting VAR, referee Roberto Ríos Jácome determined there was no such offense.
In the second half, Chivas looked the better side, with the combination of Brizuela and Orbelín Pineda proving troublesome for León’s defense and William Yarbrough.
The visitors found the breakthrough in the 63rd minute, when Brizuela received the ball outside the box and sent his low shot towards goal, with Ángel Zaldívar getting a touch that wrong-footed the keeper. 0-1 for Chivas.
Chivas then sat back to preserve the lead, letting León take control of the ball as they pushed for an equalizer. Boselli in particular had several good opportunities, but he couldn’t get past Raúl Gudiño.
With the 0-1 win, Chivas reaches 20 points while León still has 17.
