Pachuca vs León – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Pachuca took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they drew 1-1 with León. The result will keep the Tuzos out of the playoffs, as they needed a win to move into the top eight; La Fiera were already eliminated from contention. Pachuca finishes the season with a six-game unbeaten streak, while León ends with a four-game winless streak.

The game was end-to-end from the beginning, with Pachuca desperate to score and León looking to play spoiler. Franco Jara had a few early opportunities, but Rodolfo Cota was alert to the danger. At the other end, Jean Meneses and Mauro Boselli were heavily involved for León.

The Tuzos found the breakthrough in the 26th minute, with Sebastián Palacios sending a cross into the box that Jara finished off from within the six-yard box to make it 1-0 for Pachuca.

The goal could have put Pachuca into the playoffs, but the lead lasted just four minutes before León found the equalizer. Boselli silenced the Estadio Hidalgo when he headed home a service from Meneses to make it 1-1.

The intensity of the game picked up after that goal, with Pachuca’s desperation ratcheting up with each passing minute. In the second half, León looked to take advantage of Pachuca’s pressing to put the game away, and they came as close as hitting the inside of the post.

Pachuca couldn’t get even that close, with most of their shots going either off target or directly into the arms of Cota; but in stoppage time they had a golden opportunity go begging as defender Omar Mireles was able to clear away Leonardo Ulloa’s shot.

With the 1-1 draw, Pachuca reaches 24 points while León reaches 18.
