The hosts came out attacking and soon began to find dangerous chances. Rogelio Funes Mori had a golden opportunity in the 8th minute when he received the ball in the box, beat his defender, and shot towards the far post, but his attempt went just wide.
It didn’t take long after that for the Rayados to find the breakthrough, though, with Avilés Hurtado making it 1-0 in the 10th minute after being played in by Carlos Rodríguez.
Pachuca looked for a response and Ángelo Sagal forced a save out of Marcelo Barovero in the 18th minute, but the Tuzos were largely lacking an incisive touch even when they began to earn more of the possession.
Monterrey continued to have the better chances, but the game remained 1-0 going into halftime. But the Rayados opened the floodgates in the second half, starting with Jonathan González’s goal in the 51st minute, in which he drew out Alfonso Blanco before rounding the keeper and sending the ball into the empty net to make it 2-0.
Five minutes after that, Rogelio Funes Mori hit the post with his shot from the top of the box; Dorlan Pabón controlled the rebound and sent it back to Funes Mori, who knocked it into the empty net to make it 3-0.
In the 72nd minute, Pabón ran down a long pass and then again assisted Funes Mori, who made it 4-0 with another simple finish.
Ángel Zaldívar put the exclamation mark on the victory with his goal in the 83rd minute to make it 5-0, giving the Rayados a perfect start to the season.
With the 5-0 win, Monterrey reaches three points while Pachuca still has zero.
