Clausura 2019 Week 2 Preview: Sunday’s Games

Toluca vs Puebla – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Toluca (2nd) came from behind to earn a 1-3 victory against Monarcas Morelia last weekend, and they’ll be looking to make it two wins in a row when they return home to the Estadio Nemesio Diez for this one. The Diablos Rojos will be encouraged by their response to falling behind last weekend and they’ll also have the advantage of some extra rest for this one as they did not have a midweek game.

As for Puebla (9th), the Poblanos drew 1-1 with Cruz Azul last weekend. They’ll now look for their first win when they go on the road in this one. Puebla was on the road in midweek as well, where they fell 3-2 to TM Fútbol Club in the Copa MX. They’ll look to put that behind them here, but Toluca is a hard team to beat at home. Nevertheless, Puebla will want to get that first win under their belt sooner rather than later. Although they’re not realistically involved in the relegation fight this season, despite their penultimate position in the Tabla de Cociente, they’ll want to strengthen their position for next year by earning as many points as possible this season.

Santos Laguna vs Monarcas Morelia – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (17th) fell 2-0 to Lobos BUAP last weekend and will now be looking for their first win when they return home for this one. The Laguneros didn’t play badly last weekend, despite the scoreline, but they didn’t take advantage of their opportunities. They’ll be looking for a better attacking showing here as they look to keep their home unbeaten streak alive. Santos didn’t lose a single game in the Estadio Corona in the Apertura, accumulating six wins and three draws in their nine home matches.

As for Monarcas Morelia (15th), the michoacanos fell 1-3 to Toluca last weekend and they’ll be looking for a better showing here. They did manage a better showing in midweek, where they beat Potros UAEM 1-2 on the road in the Copa MX. They’ll be looking for another road win when they return to league play for this one, and they had a decent road record in the Apertura, but it’s hard for visitors to win in the Estadio Corona.
