Pumas UNAM vs Atlas – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (13th) fell 2-1 to Necaxa last weekend to give them their first loss of the Clausura. That result also keeps the universitarios winless in league play. They did win the Copa MX, however, where they picked up a 0-2 win against Leones Negros on Wednesday night. They’ll look to build on that result when they return home to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario for this one, but Pumas wasn’t particularly successful at home last season, earning just two wins in eight games.
As for Atlas (8th), the Rojinegros fell 1-2 to América last weekend to give them their first loss of the Clausura. Atlas is unbeaten on the road so far this season, though, and they’ll look to get back to winning ways in this one. They’ve already earned more points on the road this season than they did in the entirety of the Apertura, and they’ll hope to take advantage of Pumas’ home inconsistencies. They’ll also have the advantage of not having played a midweek game.
Lobos BUAP vs Necaxa – 5:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Lobos BUAP (2nd) beat Veracruz 0-1 last weekend to remain perfect this season. The Licántropos will now look to make it three wins in a row when they return home to the Estadio Universitario BUAP for this one. They’ve posted back-to-back shutouts and they’ll be confident going into this game, especially given that they did not have to play a midweek match. Lobos are one of just two teams involved in the relegation fight this season, and they’ll be looking to reach mathematical safety as soon as possible.
As for Necaxa (7th), the Rayos started their season with a 2-1 win against Pumas UNAM last weekend, and they’ll look for another win in their first road match here. However, they struggled on the road last season – to put it mildly. Necaxa failed to win a single away game, picking up just a single point through eight matches. They also fell in the Copa MX in midweek, where they lost 1-2 to América.
Chivas de Guadalajara vs Toluca – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Chivas de Guadalajara (3rd) beat Cruz Azul 0-1 last weekend to keep them perfect this season, and they’ll now be looking to make it three in a row when they return home to the Estadio Akron for this one. They struggled in their own stadium last season, with just one win in eight matches, but they’ve already matched that home win total in the Clausura. They also earned a win there in midweek with a 3-0 victory against Cafetaleros in the Copa MX
As for Toluca (1st), the Diablos Rojos beat Puebla 2-0 last weekend to keep them perfect as well. They, too, will be looking for a third straight win, and they’ll have the advantage of not having played a midweek game. The Diablos have one of the best scoring records in the league so far, having registered multiple goals in both of their matches, and they’ll look to be the first to score against Chivas in this one.
León vs Tijuana – 9:00 PM – Univision Deportes
León (11th) drew 2-2 with Monterrey last weekend to keep them both winless and unbeaten this season. La Fiera has registered a pair of 2-2 draws to start the season, with stoppage-time goals deciding the result in both matches. They’ll look to get their first win when they return home to the Nou Camp for this one, and they’ll have gained a confidence boost after beating Cruz Azul 2-3 in the Copa MX in midweek. Allowing multiple goals yet again will be of concern, though, and shoring up their defense should be a priority in this one.
As for Tijuana (18th), the Xolos fell 0-3 to Tigres UANL last weekend to keep them winless this season. Tijuana has lost two in a row, has allowed multiple goals in both matches, and has yet to score themselves. They’ll be looking to change all three of those statistics in this one, and they did manage a goal in the Copa MX in midweek, although they couldn’t get a win there either as they drew 1-1 with Atlante.
