The game started off fairly evenly, with neither team able to take control. But then a set piece gave América the lead; Renato Ibarra sent in a corner kick, and Guido Rodríguez appeared unmarked to send it home in the 16th minute. 1-0.
Pachuca looked for a response and they came close in the 24th minute. América lost the ball trying to play out of the back and Franco Jara had a dangerous shot go just wide of the post. But immediately after that, the Águilas responded with another chance of their own as Ibarra sent in another dangerous ball that ended up just out of the reach of a sliding Oribe Peralta at the far post.
América took the 1-0 lead into halftime, and then they added to it just moments after the game restarted. In the 46th minute, the Águilas went on a quick attack that ended with Cristian Insaurralde sliding the ball across the top of the six-yard box where Henry Martín appeared to make it 2-0.
Before Pachuca could react to that goal, América made it three. In the 51st minute, the hosts put the game completely out of reach when Martín assisted Insaurralde, whose volley from the top of the box made it 3-0 for the Águilas.
Pachuca made attack-minded substitutions as they looked for a way back into the game, but their efforts proved futile. Their best chance to reduce the deficit came in the 73rd minute through Jara again, but Agustín Marchesín made the save to preserve his clean sheet.
With the 3-0 win, América reaches six points while Pachuca still has three.
