Puebla vs Santos Laguna – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Puebla took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Santos Laguna came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Poblanos winless this season, although they’re unbeaten at home, while the Laguneros are now unbeaten in two.

The game started off at a good pace, with early chances at both ends. Javier Correa had a pair of good opportunities for the visitors, coming as close as hitting the post, but it was the hosts who opened the scoring.

In the 19th minute, Santos could only partially clear a cross into the box, and Pablo González came flying in at the top of the box to volley the ball straight into the back of the net: 1-0.

It didn’t take long for Santos to tie it up, however. In the 24th minute, Javier Abella sent a long ball into the box and Correa sent his glancing header into the far corner to make it 1-1.

The visitors had a golden opportunity to take the lead on the stroke of halftime when, after consulting with VAR, referee Fernando Hernández awarded Santos a penalty kick following a foul by Aldahir Molina. However, Julio César Furch skied the PK over the bar to keep the game tied 1-1.

In the second half, both teams pressed for a winning goal. Lucas Cavallini created some good chances for Puebla, most notably in the 59th minute, but he couldn’t find the target; then, at the other end, Santos hit the woodwork once again with Diego Valdés crashing the ball against the crossbar in the 73rd minute.

In the end, Puebla and Santos had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Puebla reaches two points while Santos reaches four.
