Querétaro vs Monterrey – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Querétaro took the lead but couldn’t hold it as 10-man Monterrey came back for a 1-2 away win. The result is a third straight loss for the Gallos Blancos, while the Rayados remain unbeaten this season.

Querétaro was looking to get their Clausura 2019 season on track after a pair of losses to open the season, and they started this game with some good chances. Camilo Sanvezzo and Ake Loba were dangerous up top and they came as close as hitting the post in the 12th minute.

The hosts took the lead just before the half-hour mark, when Alexis Pérez sent in a good cross for the unmarked Sanvezzo to head home. The goal was originally flagged as offside, but after consulting with VAR, referee Diego Montaño determined it would count: 1-0 for Querétaro.

Monterrey looked for a response after falling behind, and in the second half they found the equalizer. In the 54th minute, Jesús Gallardo collected the ball in midfield and worked his way to the top of the box, where he beat Gil Acalá to make it 1-1.

But shortly after that, Monterrey was reduced to 10 men as Leonel Vangioni was sent off for a high kick on Sanvezzo in the 58th minute.

Despite playing a man down, the Rayados still found chances to take the lead, and their persistence paid off in stoppage time. In the 90th minute, Jesús Gallardo cut the ball back for Maximiliano Meza, whose shot from just outside the box found the corner to make it 1-2 for Monterrey.

With the 1-2 win, Monterrey reaches 7 points while Querétaro still has zero.
