Pumas UNAM vs Atlas – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Pumas UNAM took a 2-0 lead but failed to hold it as Atlas scored in stoppage time to secure a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten at home but winless overall this season, while the Rojinegros remain unbeaten on the road.

Pumas came out looking to earn their first victory of the Clausura in front of their home fans, and although Atlas was organized in the back the hosts were able to take advantage of a set piece to open the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Pumas won a free kick about five yards outside the box, and Víctor Malcorra scored direct from the free kick to make it 1-0 for UNAM.

That goal changed the tempo of the game, filling Pumas with confidence and inspiring them to continue to press. It didn’t take long for them to add another goal, as Felipe Mora headed home a cross from Pablo Barrera in the 31st minute to make it 2-0.

But the second half was another story for the hosts. Atlas looked better after the break, and in the 58th minute they reduced the deficit through captain Juan Pablo Vigón, who headed home a cross to make it 2-1.

Then, in the 75th minute, Pumas captain Pablo Barrera was shown a straight red card for a foul, leaving the hosts to try to hold on to their lead while playing with 10 men.

Atlas took advantage of their numerical advantage to seize control of the ball and press the attack in search of an equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the 91st minute, when Vigón scored his second of the game with another header to make it 2-2.

With the 2-2 draw, Pumas reach two points while Atlas reaches four.
