Chivas de Guadalajara vs Toluca – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara moved into first place in the table with a 1-0 victory against Toluca. The result keeps El Rebaño perfect this season, while the Diablos Rojos suffered their first defeat.

The game started off at a good pace and Toluca had an early chance from a corner kick that surprised Raúl Gudiño and nearly ended up as an Olímpico from Pablo Barrientos. Gudiño was then called on to deny Luis Mendoza in the 16th minute as the visitors looked to take the lead.

Chivas kept Alfredo Talavera busy at the other end as well, with Isaác Brizuela testing the keeper on a few occasions. But despite the chances at both ends, the game remained goalless going into halftime.

In the second half, the hosts took the lead. In the 56th minute, Alan Pulido spun past his defender and beat Talavera with a shot from outside the box to make it 1-0 for Guadalajara.

Toluca kept attacking after falling behind and in the 74th minute they thought they had found the equalizer through Enrique Triverio’s header – but after VAR review, the would-be goal was disallowed after it was ruled the ball did not completely cross the goal line.

The aftermath of that decision saw Toluca’s assistant coach Pablo Morant ejected from the sidelines after his protest.

In the end, Toluca wasn’t able to come any closer than that, and Chivas held on to the 1-0 lead to make it three wins in a row.

With the 1-0 win, Chivas reaches nine points while Toluca still has six.
