One day after the dismissal of Pako Ayesterán, Pachuca has announced his replacement: Martín Palermo.
Palermo, 45, joins Pachuca after parting ways with Chilean team Unión Española in November after two years with the club.
Palermo previously coached Godoy Cruz and Arsenal de Sarandí in his native Argentina, where he starred for Boca Juniors during his playing days. Palermo won 13 trophies in five different competitions with Boca and is also the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
His coaching career, which started in 2012, has had fewer successes to date, with his most successful season seeing Unión Española finish runners-up in the Chilean Primera División in 2017.
Joining the Tuzos will mark Palermo’s first foray into Mexican soccer, and he will be joined by compatriot Roberto Abbondanzieri as assistant coach.
