Toluca vs Tigres UANL – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Toluca (4th) fell 1-0 to Chivas de Guadalajara last weekend to end their perfect start to the season. The Diablos Rojos will look to get back to winning ways when they return home to the Estadio Nemesio Diez for this one, a stadium where they are traditionally hard to beat. They’ll be without their suspended assistant coach, though, and head coach Hernán Cristante is also being looked at by the Disciplinary Committee; whether that has any effect on Toluca on the field remains to be seen.
As for Tigres UANL (7th), the universitarios fell 0-1 to Cruz Azul last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season. Tigres are still unbeaten on the road, though, where they’ve earned a win and a draw so far this Clausura. Tigres have a good goal-scoring record on the road as well, where they’ve netted five goals in two games. They’ll look to keep that streak alive in this one.
Querétaro vs León – 5:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Querétaro (18th) fell 1-2 to Monterrey last weekend to extend their losing streak to three games. The Gallos Blancos are now the only team in the league not to have registered at least one point, a statistic they will hope to change when they return home to La Corregidora for this one. They exploded to life in the Copa MX in midweek, where they earned a 0-4 away win against Zacatepec, and they’ll look to build on that result when they return to league play this weekend.
As for León (14th), La Fiera fell 0-1 to Tijuana last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season. Despite only losing once so far, León remains winless, with two draws rounding out their results over the first three weeks. They’ll hope to take advantage of facing a vulnerable team here to earn their first victory of the Clausura, and they’ll also have the advantage of not having had a midweek game.
Santos Laguna vs Chivas de Guadalajara – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (10th) drew 1-1 with Puebla last weekend to keep them unbeaten in two. They’re also perfect at home this season, and they’ll look for another home victory when they return to the Estadio Corona for this one. Santos has found goals somewhat hard to come by, though, with just two scored to date, and they’ll home for a stronger attacking performance here.
As for Chivas de Guadalajara (1st), el Rebaño beat Toluca 1-0 last weekend to remain perfect this season. Chivas will now look to make it four wins in a row when they visit Santos in this one. Like their hosts, Chivas hasn’t done a whole lot of scoring – four goals in three games – but on the other hand, they’ve posted three consecutive clean sheets. Chivas has the best defensive record in the league, and they don’t need a lot of goals when they can make one stand up.
