Both teams came out attacking as they looked to put their mark on the game, and there were chances at either end. Hernán Darío Burbano had the first notable chance for the visitors, while Morelia responded with shots by Sebastián Vegas and Edison Flores.
In the 32nd minute, Atlas came within inches, only to see Sebastián Vegas clear the ball off the line with the keeper beaten. Then, just before halftime, Mario Osuna hit the crossbar as the hosts came within inches themselves.
In the second half, Atlas continued to threaten. In the 53rd minute, Facundo Barcelo had a good look with a right-footed shot, but Sebastián Sosa was able to make the save. The pressure would pay off for the visitors in the 61st minute, though, as Jesús Isijara saw his shot to the near post end up in the back of the net with the help of a deflection to make it 0-1 for Atlas.
Morelia looked for a response, and in the 79th minute, substitute Irven Ávila took the ball into the box and sent a dangerous cross to the far post, where Gastón Lezcano was waiting to make it 1-1.
Parity lasted just three minutes, however, before Atlas retook the lead. Isijara played in Zaldívar, who sent a low cross into the box for Barcelo, who made it 1-2 for the visitors.
Morelia looked for another equalizer, but they were unable to find one as they suffered their second home loss of the season.
With the 1-2 win, Atlas reaches 10 points while Morelia still has four.
