The Disciplinary Committee has suspended five players and fined a coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 5 games.
Lucas Cavallini of Puebla and Omar Tobio of Toluca were both given one-game suspensions for violent conduct, while Matheus Doria of Santos Laguna was suspended one game for serious foul play.
Cruz Azul and Pumas UNAM had filed petitions of non-conformity regarding the red cards given to Yoshimar Yotún and Luis Quintana, respectively, but neither petition proceeded and both players were given one-game suspensions for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Update: Both Cruz Azul and Pumas UNAM appealed those suspensions. The Appeals Committee upheld the sanction given to Yotún, but removed the one given to Quintana, clearing him to play in Jornada 6.
Finally, Toluca successfully appealed the sending-off of head coach Hernán Cristante, so he is cleared to return to the sidelines for their next game. However, he was also fined an undisclosed amount following the conclusion of the Disciplinary Committee investigation into his Jornada 3 post-game comments, which determined he violated Articles 8, 10, and 11 of the Code of Ethics.
