Clausura 2019 Week 6 Preview: Sunday’s Games

Toluca vs Cruz Azul – 1:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Toluca (12th) fell 2-0 to Tijuana last weekend to extend their losing streak to three games. The Diablos rojos will look to get back to winning ways when they return to the Estadio Nemesio Diez for this one, but they’ve had mixed results at home so far in the Clausura. They’ve also failed to score in their last three matches, bringing their scoreless streak to 280 minutes. They have a fairly good defensive record, though, and they’ll also have the advantage of some extra rest for this one as they did not have a midweek game.

As for Cruz Azul (10th), La Máquina fell 2-0 to León last weekend to end their two-game winning streak. That was the first time this season Cruz Azul conceded more than one goal in a game, although on the other hand they’ve also failed to score more than one goal in a game. That pattern continued in the Copa MX in midweek, where they played out a 1-1 draw with León. They’ll look to get back on track when they face a new opponent in this one.

Santos Laguna vs Tijuana – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (9th) fell 2-1 to Tigres UANL last weekend to end their three-game unbeaten streak. The result keeps the Laguneros winless on the road this season as well, but they’ll look to get back to winning ways when they return home to the Estadio Corona, where they’re perfect to date in the Clausura. Santos hasn’t scored many goals so far this season, but they also have yet to concede one at home. They’ll also have the advantage of some extra rest as they did not have a midweek game.

As for Tijuana (13th), the Xolos beat Toluca 2-0 last weekend to give them two wins in their last three. They also tripled their season goal-scoring total in that last game after previously having scored just once in their first four games combined, and they’ll hope to keep scoring in this one. They picked up a win in midweek as well, where they earned a 0-1 win against Atlante, and they’ll look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Torreón for this one.
