The visitors started the game off strongly and took the lead in the 12th minute. Agustín Marchesín made a good save on a free kick, but Ángel Mena kept the rebound in play and sent the ball to the back post, where José Macías volleyed it home to make it 0-1.
América immediately began to look for a response and Henry Martín soon had a good opportunity with a bicycle kick, but Rodolfo Cota made the save. Then, in the 34rd minute, Paul Aguilar got his head to a corner kick but couldn’t put it on target.
