Atlas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Puebla came back for a 1-2 victory. The result snaps the Rojinegros’ two-game winning streak and three-game unbeaten streak, while the Poblanos have now won two in a row on the road.
Atlas started the game off stronger and had several early chances. Then, in the 15th minute, they took the lead. Jesús Isijara received a corner kick unmarked at the top of the six-yard box, took a touch, and sent his shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
They seemed to relax after taking the lead, though, and Puebla was able to tie it up shortly before halftime. In the 38th minute, Omar González failed to cut out the ball in midfield, allowing Cristian Tabó to break away, drive into the box, and beat José Hernández to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Puebla looked to continue the comeback while Atlas lacked urgency. The Rojinegros had few chances of note to retake the lead, with the best one coming in the 76th minute through Darío Burbano.
At the other end of the field, Puebla’s persistence paid off late on. In the 88th minute, Matías Alustiza scored against his former team, with his header taking a deflection as it made its way into the net to give the visitors a late lead.
Atlas was unable to respond in the scant time remaining, and Puebla was able to take all three points.
With the 1-2 win, Puebla reaches eight points while Atlas still has 10.
