Monterrey vs Lobos BUAP – Jornada 6 Recap and Highlights

Monterrey remained atop the table with a comprehensive 4-0 victory against Lobos BUAP. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten this season, while the Licántropos remain winless in four.

Monterrey started the game off strongly against a Lobos side that has been struggling in recent weeks. Toño Rodríguez was impressive in goal for the visitors, but he could only do so much against the league’s best attack; in the 20th minute, the Rayados opened the scoring.

Dorlan Pabón sent a cross in from the left that John Stefan Medina nodded on to the back post; Rodolfo Pizarro was there to send it home. After a VAR check for a potential offside, the goal was given to make it 1-0 for Monterrey.

The hosts added to their lead less than five minutes later, when the unfortunate Michael Orozco knocked a corner kick into his own net to make it 2-0 with his own-goal.

Monterrey kept the pressure on and Rogelio Funes Mori nearly made it three in the 37th minute, but Rodríguez was able to get a touch to the shot to divert it against the post. Then, in the 43rd minute, Aldo Cruz made a goal-line clearance to keep Lobos in the game.

But in the second half, the Rayados continued to run up the score. In the 77th minute, they were awarded a penalty kick, and Nicolás Sánchez converted it to make it 3-0.

Then, in the 82nd, Lobos conceded another penalty; this time, Funes Mori stepped up, and he converted as well to give Monterrey the commanding 4-0 lead.

With the 4-0 win, Monterrey reaches 14 points while Lobos still have seven.
