Pachuca remained perfect at home this season with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Monarcas Morelia. The result keeps the Tuzos unbeaten in three, while the michoacanos have now lost two in a row and remain winless on the road in the Clausura.
The first half was a hard-fought affair with more fouls than goal-scoring opportunities. Neither team could take control and the most notable chance of the half didn’t come until the very end of it, when Miguel Sansores forced a good save out of Alfonso Blanco.
The pace picked up in the second half, and Pachuca’s increased forays into the attacking third paid off in the 58th minute, when Franco Jara drew a penalty after being fouled in the box. Jara, playing his 100th league game, stepped up to take the penalty himself and he converted it to give the Tuzos the 1-0 lead.
The night soon got more complicated for Morelia when captain Gabriel Achilier was sent off in the 71st minute after a hard tackle on Víctor Guzmán, leaving the visitors down a goal and down a man.
Pachuca used their numerical advantage to control the game and they continued to press as they looked for an insurance goal. It came in stoppage time, when Víctor Dávila finished off a pass on the half-volley to make it 2-0.
With the 2-0 win, Pachuca reaches 10 points while Morelia still has four.
