Pumas UNAM earned their first win of the Clausura 2019 with a 0-2 away win against Querétaro. The result is a sixth-straight loss for the Gallos Blancos, while the universitarios are now unbeaten in two.
The visitors took control of the game early on, enjoying more possession and looking dangerous in attack. Pablo Barrera was particularly active in the offensive third, and his persistence paid off in the 16th minute when his shot from outside the box took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net to give UNAM the 0-1 lead.
Querétaro looked for a response, and in the 32nd minute they had the ball in the back of the net through Ayron del Valle’s header, but his would-be goal was disallowed; Camilo Sanvezzo, who had sent in the cross for Del Valle, had received the ball in an offside position.
That decision took the wind out of Querétaro’s sails, although they looked somewhat sharper in the second half when their subs came on. The Gallos had a chance or two to tie the game, but Pumas continued to control possession.
In the final stages of the game, the visitors added an insurance goal through Juan Iturbe, who received the ball in midfield, took it to the edge of the box, and fired past Gil Alcalá to make it 0-2 for Pumas.
Querétaro was unable to react to that second goal, leaving them without a single point in the Clausura while Pumas celebrated their first victory.
With the 0-2 win, Pumas reach six points while Querétaro still has zero.
