Toluca vs Cruz Azul – Jornada 6 Recap and Highlights

Cruz Azul took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Toluca came back for a 1-1 draw. The result snaps a three-game losing streak for the Diablos Rojos, but keeps them winless in four, while La Máquina remain winless in two.

The game started off at an energetic pace, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways. The first notable chance came for the visitors when Adrián Aldrete sent a dangerous cross in, but no one could get on the end of it.

In the 19th minute, Toluca had their first good opportunity through Carlos Esquivel, but his right-footed shot ended up just off target. Then, in the 24th minute, Rodrigo Salinas saw his shot stopped by Jesús Corona.

A minute after that, Cruz Azul took the lead. Jonathan Rodríguez got free on the right and sent a cross into the box, where Orbelín Pineda burst between the defense to head the ball past Alfredo Talavera: 0-1.

The visitors very nearly added to their lead just before halftime when Rodríguez sent another good cross in from the right, but Martín Cauteruccio couldn’t get enough contact on the ball and Talavera made the save.

In the second half, Toluca began to create chances for an equalizer. Their pressure paid off in the 65th minute, when Pablo Barrientos sent a free kick into the box and Adrián Mora headed it home to make it 1-1.

Both teams looked for a second goal throughout the final twenty minutes of the same. Adrián Aldrete tried his luck from distance twice, but both times he failed to find the target. At the other end, Jonatan Maidana had a dangerous header cleared off the line with Corona beaten.

In the end, the 1-1 scoreline held and the two teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Toluca reaches seven points while Cruz Azul reaches eight.
