Pumas UNAM vs América – 1:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (15th) beat Querétaro 0-2 last weekend to give them a long-awaited first victory of the Clausura. The universitarios will now look for their first home win when they return to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario for this rivalry match. Pumas is unbeaten at home, with a string of draws, but they’ll be looking for more in this Clásico Capitalino – especially since they’re facing the team who bounced them out of the playoffs last season with a humiliating 6-1 loss.
As for América (8th), the Águilas fell 0-3 to León last weekend to send them into this rivalry match on the back of a loss. América has alternated wins and losses over the past four weeks, and they’ll hope that pattern means they’ll be due a victory in the Clásico. They’ve been a strong attacking team, scoring two or more goals in every match until last weekend’s, and they’ll look for another goal-filled performance in this one.
Lobos BUAP vs Querétaro – 5:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Lobos BUAP (14th) fell 4-0 to Monterrey last weekend to keep them winless in four. After a strong start to the season, the Licántropos have rather lost their way, and they’ll need to find it sooner rather than later if they want to avoid being dragged seriously into the relegation fight. Lobos have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways in this one as they’re facing the last-place team in the league; if they fail to win here, serious questions are going to be raised.
As for Querétaro (18th), the Gallos Blancos fell 0-2 to Pumas UNAM last weekend to give them their sixth straight loss. Querétaro has yet to pick up a single point this season and they’ve allowed a league-high 15 goals in the process. On the other hand, if they’re going to break out of their slump this is the time to do it, as they face a team with struggles of their own. The Gallos have yet to score on the road, but Lobos’ defense has been looking shaky in recent weeks and they’ll look to take advantage here.
