Monterrey vs Puebla – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Monterrey and Puebla played out a 0-0 draw. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten this season but ends their three-game home winning streak, while the Poblanos remain unbeaten in three.

Monterrey needed a win here to jump back over their regional rivals and reclaim first place, while Puebla was looking for their first victory under Chelis. The game was fairly even initially, with Monterrey having more possession but Puebla having the better of the chances.

In the 11th minute, Jesús Zavala had a chance from a corner kick, but Marcelo Barovero reacted well to make the save. Monterrey responded with a shot from Maxi Meza in the 16th minute, but he couldn’t find the target.

Then, in the 34th minute, Matías Alustiza appeared to have put the visitors ahead, only for the would-be goal to be disallowed for offside.

In the second half, Monterrey pressed hard for a goal, with Rodolfo Pizarro in particular looking dangerous, but Puebla remained well-organized defensively and managed to keep the highest-scoring team in the league off the board.

Puebla had a chance or two to snatch a surprise victory, but in the end they settled back to defend the draw and will be pleased to have earned a point against the league’s only unbeaten team.

With the 0-0 draw, Monterrey reaches 18 points while Puebla reaches 10.
