Following Monarcas Morelia’s 3-0 loss to Querétaro on Saturday, the club announced the departure of head coach Roberto Hernández.
The michoacanos have had a poor start to the season and their loss to last-place Querétaro was the last straw; they’re currently sitting in 15th place with a 1-1-6 record and four points.
The club thanked Hernández, who was a former player as well as coach, for his “love of our colors” and stated “Monarcas Morelia will always be your home”. Under Hernández, Morelia not only avoided relegation but made three consecutive playoff appearances, even reaching the semifinals once.
Gastón Obledo will serve as interim coach for Morelia’s Copa MX game on Tuesday night while the club searches for a permanent replacement for Hernández, who had led Monarcas since the Clausura 2017 season.
