Cruz Azul continued their climb up the table with a 0-2 away win against Atlas. The result gives La Máquina back-to-back wins and keeps them unbeaten in three, while the Rojinegros have now lost five in a row.
The visitors came out attacking and had their first good chance in the 3rd minute, but Milton Caraglio couldn’t get his header on target. That was a sign of things to come, though, as Atlas was unable to deal with Cruz Azul’s pressure.
Orbelín Pineda hit the post in the 13th minute as La Máquina continued to threaten, before the breakthrough came just a minute later. In the 14th minute, Julio César Domínguez got into the box and beat José Hernández from the right to make it 0-1 for Cruz Azul.
It could easily have turned into a blowout, with chances continuing to come fast and furious for the visitors. They had easily half a dozen clear opportunities before finding a second goal in the 52nd minute. Yoshimar Yotún sent his shot from just outside the box past Hernández to make it 0-2.
There were more chances for the visitors, while Atlas only really began to get something going in attack in the final 20 minutes of the game. Alejandro Díaz had a pair of opportunities, but he couldn’t get either of his headers on target.
Then, in stoppage time, Juan Pablo Vigón was sent off to add to Atlas’s misery on the night.
With the 0-2 win, Cruz Azul reaches 15 points while Atlas still has 10.
