Lobos BUAP took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Monarcas Morelia came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps La Monarquía unbeaten in three but winless in eight, while the Licántropos are winless in two.
The visitors started the game off stronger, although they struggled to convert their chances. In the 9th minute Michael Orozco failed to convert a golden opportunity when he managed to send the ball over the bar from within the six-yard box.
Then, in the 18th minute, Sebastián Sosa made an impressive save against Michaell Chirinos, with the keeper getting just enough on the Honduran’s shot to send it out for a corner.
Finally, in the 37th minute, Lobos found the breakthrough. Orozco atoned for his earlier miss as he headed home a corner kick to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
But the lead didn’t last long before Morelia found an equalizer against the run of play. In the 44th minute, Carlos Ferreira got into the box and sent his low shot into the corner to make it 1-1 going into halftime.
Morelia grabbed that momentum and kept it going in the second half, which was a mirror image of the first 45. The hosts had more possession and more chances, but a second goal just wouldn’t come.
In the 65th minute, Gastón Lezcano tried his luck from distance and came within inches of the upper corner; soon after that, Aldo Rocha was played into the box, only to send his shot over the bar.
Morelia continued to press, but Toño Rodríguez was active in goal and was instrumental to preserving the draw for Lobos. In the end, Morelia was unable to end their long winless streak as the two teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
With the 1-1 draw, Morelia reaches seven points while Lobos reach 14.
