Chivas de Guadalajara and América faced off for the second time in four days – in the Copa MX and now in the league – and the result was the same: a 2-0 win for the Águilas. The result gives América back-to-back wins and keeps them unbeaten in four, while El Rebaño are winless in four, with three losses in that span.
Chivas, having lost the first SuperClásico, looked to bounce back in this one, where they were the home team. But the hosts struggled to get into the game. Alejandro Zendejas, making his league debut on the left wing in place of the injured Carlos Cisneros, was a weak point, and Renato Ibarra took full advantage in the third minute.
Ibarra got down the wing and sent a cross in for Nicolás Castillo, who finished it off in style to give América the early 0-1 lead.
Chivas tried to react, and they had one dangerous chance through Alexis Vega, but the game went increasingly off the rails for the hosts. Vega picked up a yellow card and was close to getting a second, and was subbed out in the 30th minute as a result. But six minutes later, Chivas went down to 10 men anyway as Jesús Molina was given a red card for a bad tackle on Guido Rodríguez.
Chivas came out looking to attack in the second half, but Andrés Ibargüen scored América’s second in the 50th minute to take the wind out of their sails. Ibargüen received the ball just outside the box, danced past his defender, and beat Raúl Gudiño with a low shot to make it 0-2 for the Águilas.
Chivas began to look actually dangerous in the final twenty minutes of the game as América took their foot off the gas, but América still had a numerical advantage and Chivas couldn’t find the breakthrough despite the best efforts of Isaác Brizuela.
With the 0-2 win, América reaches 19 points while Chivas still has 15.
