Necaxa vs Veracruz – Jornada 12 Recap and Highlights

Necaxa picked up just their second home win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Veracruz. The result gives the Rayos back-to-back victories and keeps them unbeaten in three, while the Tiburones Rojos remain winless this season.

Veracruz’s relegation seems ever more of a sure thing, with the Tiburones showing a complete inability to find goals, points, and victories with two-thirds of the Clausura 2019 season gone. They nearly shot themselves in the foot in the 22nd minute of this game when two defenders collided trying to clear a cross and came within inches of sending the ball into their own net.

They were able to see off that scare, but parity didn’t last long beyond that as Necaxa took the lead in the 28th minute. The Rayos sent a long throw into the box, which was headed away; but Fernando González was waiting outside the box and his volley made it 1-0 for the hosts.

In the second half, Necaxa eased off the gas pedal and allowed Veracruz to have more of the ball. The visitors couldn’t do much with it, however, and the better of the chances still went Necaxa’s way. Sebastián Jurado made a number of impressive saves to keep his team in the game, but Veracruz couldn’t take advantage.

Then, in stoppage time, Brian Fernández added an insurance goal with a curving shot into the upper corner to make it 2-0.

With the 2-0 win, Necaxa reaches 21 points while Veracruz still has four.
