10-man Chivas de Guadalajara was unable to make their home-field advantage count as they fell 0-1 to Lobos BUAP. The result ends a three-game winless streak for the Licántropos, while El Rebaño has now lost three in a row and is winless in six.
Chivas started the game off with some promising chances, such as when Alejandro Mayora sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but no one was there to finish it off. Then the hosts were handed an early blow when Jair Periera had to be subbed out injured in the 10th minute.
Alexis Vega and Alan Pulido had chances, but couldn’t convert them, and slowly Lobos began to get into the game – which took another turn for the worse for Chivas just before halftime when Vega was controversially sent off after VAR review for trodding on a downed opponent.
In the second half, Lobos looked the better side as they took advantage of their extra player to create dangerous opportunities. Leonardo Ramos came close, and then later a corner kick very nearly led to an Olímpico.
The breakthrough finally came in the 80th minute, just as Chivas began to think they might get away with a goalless draw. Michaell Chirinos got his head on a cross to the far post and beat Miguel Jiménez to make it 0-1 for Lobos.
With the 0-1 win, Lobos reach 17 points while Chivas still has 15.
