Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Santos Laguna and Pachuca played out a 0-0 draw. The result ends a two-game losing streak for the Laguneros but keeps them winless in five, while the Tuzos remain winless on the road this season.
Santos was looking to get back to winning ways under the interim direction of Rubén Duarte, and they started the game off strongly. However, despite a few good chances, they were unable to get past Alfonso Blanco in Pachuca’s goal.
Then, shortly before halftime, the game appeared to take a turn for the worse for the hosts when Jesús Angulo was sent off with his second yellow card of the game. However, even playing with 10, Santos continued to control the majority of the game.
Pachuca has had serious struggles on the road this season, and those continued here as they proved unable to make their numerical advantage count. Their best chance came from a goalkeeping error, when Jonathan Orozco came right to the edge of the 18-yard box and failed to get the ball, allowing Franco Jara to chip it past him towards the empty net.
To the Guerreros’ relief, Jara’s effort ended up just wide of the post.
Pachuca came close again in stoppage time, when Ángelo Sagal got free on the left and drove into the box, but his low shot was off target.
In the end, the two sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
With the 0-0 draw, Santos reach 16 points while Pachuca reaches 21.
