CCL: Santos Laguna vs Tigres UANL – Semifinal Second Leg Recap and Highlights

Santos Laguna came back from two goals down to beat Tigres UANL 3-2 on the night, but they couldn’t do enough to erase the first-leg deficit, ultimately falling to Tigres 5-3 on aggregate.

All the pressure was on the hosts in this one, who needed an early goal to give them hopes of a comeback attempt. Instead, it was the visitors who struck first, with Enner Valencia making it 0-1 (0-4 aggregate) just 11 minutes into the match as he rounded the keeper and sent the ball into the empty net.

Tigres seized the momentum and Julián Quiñones nearly made it two when he hit the post; then, in the 34th minute, he did manage to get on the scoreboard, making it 0-2 (0-5) in favor of the universitarios.

The game and the series looked done and dusted, but Santos looked to salvage some pride and they pulled a goal back shortly before halftime. In the 41st minute, Julio César Furch made it 1-2 (1-5) when he finished off a loose ball following a corner kick.

In the second half, the comeback continued for Santos. Furch scored again in the 59th minute, again finishing off a corner kick, as he made it 2-2 (2-5).

Diego Valdes then put the Guerreros ahead on the night in the 77th minute, finishing off a cross at the far post after Nahuel Guzmán came off his line but failed to get the ball to make it 3-2 (3-5).

They had a chance to get even closer to tying the series when they were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, but Javier Correa sent the spot kick crashing against the crossbar.

With the 3-2 loss (5-3 aggregate win), Tigres advance to the final while Santos is eliminated.
