Necaxa vs Pachuca – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Both teams had the lead at one time or another, but in the end it was honors even as Necaxa and Pachuca played out a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten in two while the Tuzos are now unbeaten in three – but they also remain winless on the road this season.

The game started off with chances at both ends. In the 3rd minute, Alfonso Blanco was called into action to stop a header from Ventura Alvarado; then, in the 9th, Hugo González made an impressive save on a shot from Franco Jara.

The teams continued to trade chances, with neither able to dominate. Then, in the 30th minute, Necaxa thought they had found the breakthrough when Brian Fernández put the ball in the back of the net, but the would-be goal was disallowed for offside.

Five minutes later, Leonardo Ulloa headed home a corner kick to give Pachuca the 0-1 lead.

Necaxa soon had the ball in the net again, this time through Cristian Calderón, but once again the hosts were denied by the offside flag, to the fury of the crowd. But the Rayos would tie it up in the final seconds of the half, when a corner kick was flicked on to reach Eduardo Herrera, who stabbed the ball home to make it 1-1 in first-half stoppage time.

Necaxa started the second half the same way they ended the first: with Herrera finishing off a corner kick. He gave the Rayos the 2-1 lead in the 47th minute while Pachuca was stunned by the turnaround.

But the hosts were then reduced to 10 players in the 55th minute after Ventura Alvarado was ejected (after VAR review) for a hard tackle on Raúl López, leaving Necaxa to see out the rest of the game at a numerical disadvantage.

Pachuca went on the attack after that as they looked to press their advantage to level the game. Their pressure paid off in the 71st minute, when Jaine Barreiro got on the end of a cross from Edwin Cardona to send the ball between Hugo González’s legs and over the line: 2-2.

Despite playing with 10, Necaxa nevertheless nearly snatched the lead back in stoppage time. In the 92nd minute, Brian Fernández once again had the ball in the net only to be denied by the offside flag yet again.

With the 2-2 draw, Necaxa and Pachuca both reach 25 points.
