Monterrey vs León – Jornada 3 Recap & Highlights

A stoppage-time goal earned Monterrey the win as they came from behind to beat León 3-2. The result gives the Rayados their first win of the season in their first home game, while La Fiera suffered their first loss of the Apertura.

The night started off well for the visitors, who moved the ball well, got consistently into the attack, and opened the scoring in the 17th minute. From a corner kick, the ball was nodded on to the far post, where Ismael Sosa stooped to head the ball home and give León the 0-1 lead.

La Fiera struck again shortly before halftime. In the 52nd minute, Joel Campbell worked his way down field and slid the ball over to Sosa in the box; he tapped it into the path of Ángel Mena, who beat Marcelo Barovero to make it 0-2.

But right on the stroke of halftime, Monterrey responded. The Rayados earned a late corner kick; César Montes headed it on frame and Rodolfo Cota parried it away, but the rebound fell to Rogelio Funes Mori, whose own header found the back of the net. 1-2.

The second half started at high intensity as Monterrey pushed for a tying goal. They found one in the 67th minute, once again from a set piece. Montes jumped highest to get his head on a free kick and send it into the back of the net. 2-2.

It looked like the game was going to end honors even, but in the 91st minute the Rayados struck again. 32 received the ball on the right and sent a low cross to the top of the six-yard box, where Funes Mori stabbed it home to complete the comeback and give Monterrey the 3-2 lead.

With the 3-2 win, Monterrey reaches three points while León still has four.
