The first half was hard-fought, with most of the play occurring in midfield, but Cruz Azul had the edge in possession and had more attacking opportunities. They couldn’t find the breakthrough, though, and the game went to halftime still tied 0-0.
The hosts continued to press in the second half, and eventually their persistence paid off. In the 65th minute, Roberto Alvarado pounced on a deflected ball in the box, taking it past the onrushing keeper and slotting it home to make it 1-0 for La Máquina.
A set piece gave Cruz Azul their second soon after. In the 73rd minute, Yoshimar Yotún swung in a corner kick and Pablo Aguilar jumped highest to head it home and make it 2-0 for the hosts.
Juárez looked for a response, and they had a few chances, but they were unable to reduce the deficit as Cruz Azul comfortably closed out the game.
With the 2-0 win, Cruz Azul reaches five points while Juárez still has three.
