Tigres UANL scored early and never looked back as they picked up a 3-1 victory against Necaxa. The result keeps the universitarios perfect at home this season, while the Rayos remain winless on the road.
André-Pierre Gignac, who was honored in a pregame ceremony for becoming Tigres’ all-time leading goalscorer, added to his tally in the 4th minute. Gignac headed home a cross from Luis Quiñones to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead.
Necaxa was stunned by the early goal and looked shaky defensively. Enner Valencia had a good chance to add a second in the 8th minute, but his low shot from the top of the box whistled inches wide of the post.
It didn’t take too much longer for Tigres to get on the board again, though. In the 17th minute, Valencia played in Gignac, who cut around two defenders and beat Hugo González to make it 2-0.
The Frenchman completed his hat-trick five minutes later. In the 22nd minute, Gignac sent a curling shot in off the post to make it 3-0 in style.
Necaxa was able to pull a goal back shortly before halftime from a set piece, as Ventura Alvarado headed home a free kick to make it 3-1 in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, Tigres took their foot off the gas slightly while still easily keeping control of the game. Necaxa was unable to build on their lone goal and the universitarios comfortably saw out the victory.
With the 3-1 win, Tigres reach nine points while Necaxa still has four.
