Tijuana earned their first home win of the Apertura with a 1-0 victory against Pumas UNAM. The result keeps the Xolos unbeaten at home this season, while the universitarios have now lost two in a row.
The hosts took the lead early and never relinquished it. In the 9th minute, Miler Bolaños was played into the box and sent a low cross towards the far post for Camilo Sanvezzo, who slotted it home to make it 1-0 for the Xolos.
Tijuana controlled play for most of the rest of the first half, and they had a few chances to add to their lead. In the 17th minute, Washington Camacho tried his luck from outside the box, but his shot went just wide.
In the 28th minute, it looked like the Xolos would have a chance to add a second from the spot after Nicolás Freire was called for bringing down Omar Mendoza in the box, but after VAR review it was determined there was no foul.
In the second half, Pumas looked improved but couldn’t find the breakthrough, while Tijuana had a few dangerous counterattacks and Camacho came close again with a header from a set piece. In the end, the lone goal stood up.
With the 1-0 win, Tijuana reaches seven points while Pumas still have six.
