América remained unbeaten this season with a 0-1 away win against Toluca. The result is a second straight win for the Águilas, while the Diablos Rojos have lost two in a row and remain winless in the Apertura.
Toluca was looking to get their season on track in front of their home fans, and they created a few goal-scoring opportunities. Felipe Pardo was the most dangerous player for the hosts, but Óscar Jiménez made the necessary saves to keep the Diablos off the board.
América remained organized and grew into the game, although the breakthrough didn’t come until the second half.
In the 62nd minute, the Águilas launched a counterattack, with a long ball playing Renato Ibarra into space. He took the ball into the box, cut past his defender, and beat Alfredo Talavera to give the visitors the 0-1 lead.
Toluca pressed hard for an equalizer and they kept América pinned back in the final stages while they threw everything and everyone forward – but they couldn’t get through the defense.
With the 0-1 win, América reaches 10 points while Toluca still has one.
