The game started off well for the visitors, and it didn’t take long for La Máquina to take the lead. In the 4th minute, José Madueña sent a shot from just outside the box in off the post to make it 0-1 for Cruz Azul early on.
The Galaxy rallied after falling behind, though, and they found a few chances of their own. Then, shortly before halftime, they tied it up. In the 37th minute, Emil Cuello picked up a loose ball in midfield and tried his luck with a shot from distance that bounced past Jesús Corona to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Cruz Azul retook control of the game and moments after the restart, they retook the lead. In the 47th minute, Orbelín Pineda sent his shot from outside the box arcing into the upper corner to give La Máquina the 1-2 lead.
This time there was no way back for the Galaxy, with Cruz Azul maintaining possession and stifling LA’s attack. The visitors held on to the lead and booked their spot in the first Leagues Cup final.
With the 1-2 win, Cruz Azul advances to the final while the Galaxy is eliminated.
