Monarcas Morelia’s poor start to the season – four losses in five games – led to the departure of head coach Javier Torrente. The Argentinian lasted less than six months in charge of the michoacanos after having taken over on February 28th; he managed just two victories in the 23 games he coached across the Clausura and Apertura 2019 seasons.
It took Morelia just three days to confirm their new coach: Pablo Guede. The club’s announcement highlighted Guede’s accomplishments – earning promotion for Neuva Chicago from Primera B Metropolitana to Primera B Nacional in his native Argentina, winning the Supercopa Argentina with San Lorenzo, and leading Colo-Colo to the Copa Chile, the Super Copa Chile (twice), and the league title.
Morelia will be under the interim direction of Steve Padilla and Luis Orozco for this weekend’s Jornada 6 game, after which Guede will take control.
