Pachuca vs Atlas – Jornada 6 Recap & Highlights

Pachuca earned their first home win of the season with a 3-1 victory against Atlas. The result gives the Tuzos back-to-back wins, while the Rojinegros have now lost two in a row.

The game started off somewhat slowly, with play taking place mainly in midfield. Pachuca had the first good chance of the game from a set piece, but Camilo Vargas punched the free kick away.

It was a set piece that ultimately gave the Tuzos the lead. In the 29th minute, Óscar Murillo got past his marker on a corner kick and headed the ball home to make it 1-0 for Pachuca.

The hosts found a second just before halftime, this time from the run of play. Jorge Hernández – who last weekend scored his first ever goal for Pachuca after seven years with the club – brought down an attempted clearance just outside the box and sent a low laser past Vargas to make it 2-0 in the 45th minute.

Atlas struggled to react in the second half; they were preoccupied with stopping Pachuca’s frequent forays forward, and Romario Ibarra gave them particular trouble in open space, leaving them few opportunities to go on the offensive themselves.

Pachuca seemed comfortably in control until the 70th minute. Miscommunication between Gustavo Cabral and Rodrigo Rey ended with Cabral’s back-pass in the back of the net, making it 2-1 with an unfortunate own-goal.

But it didn’t take long for Pachuca to retake their choke hold on the game. In the 73rd minute, Víctor Dávila scored a golazo with an acrobatic volley to make it 3-1 for the Tuzos and guarantee the positive result for the hosts.

With the 3-1 win, Pachuca reaches seven points while Atlas still has nine.
