Tigres UANL took the lead but couldn’t hold it as América came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten at home this season and unbeaten in four overall, while the Águilas saw their three-game winning streak halted but remain undefeated in the Apertura.
The hosts came out attacking and dominated play for most of the first half. Their first good chance came in the 8th minute, when Hugo Ayala hit the post, and they kept pressing from there. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute, when Luis Quiñones sent his shot in off the post to make it 1-0 for Tigres.
As América looked to regroup, they were forced into an early substitution as Andrés Ibargüen left the came injured in the 28th minute.
Then, in the 30th minute, Quiñones came within inches of adding a second goal after Andrés-Pierre Gignac played him in behind the defense, but his shot from distance was denied by the crossbar.
In the second half, the Águilas came out with a different posture and they soon began to generate chances of their own. They found the equalizer in the 60th minute, when Francisco Córdova ran on to a cross at the top of the box and buried it to make it 1-1.
Neither team was able to go on to find a game winner, with Tigres and América having to settle for a share of the spoils.
With the 1-1 draw, Tigres reach 11 points while América reaches 14.
