Toluca vs Tijuana – Jornada 6 Recap & Highlights

Toluca logo VS Tijuana logoToluca earned their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Tijuana. The result snaps a three-game losing streak for the Diablos Rojos while the Xolos have now lost two of their last three.

Toluca came out attacking as they looked to get their season on track, and they were rewarded early. In the 7th minute, the unfortunate Diego Braghieri sent the ball into his own net while trying to cut out a cross from Édgar Pardo to give Toluca the 1-0 lead.

Tijuana looked the better team after that, with Miler Bolaños, Ariel Nahuelpan, and Camilo Sanvezzo all looking dangerous as the Xolos looked for an equalizer. But despite their pressure and their superiority, the visitors weren’t able to find a goal.

Then, in the second half, Tijuana’s hopes of a comeback took a blow as they went down to 10 players. In the 60th minute, with the aid of VAR, Sanvezzo was sent off for a hard foul on Fernando Tobio.

With the numerical advantage, Toluca began to improve. Without dominating, they began to look dangerous. Emmanuel Gigliotti had a great chance to add an insurance goal, but he scuffed his attempt.

Soon after that, Pedro Canelo sealed the win when he slipped behind the defense to head home a free kick in the 76th minute.

With the 2-0 win, Toluca reaches four points while Tijuana still has seven.
