Cruz Azul has announced the departure of coach Pedro Caixinha “by mutual agreement” following La Máquina’s 1-1 draw with Chivas de Guadalajara on Saturday.
The Portuguese coach has been with the club since the Clausura 2018 season and oversaw a total of 86 games in all competitions. He had a record of 40 wins, 21 losses, and 25 draws. Under Caixinha, Cruz Azul won the Apertura 2018 Copa MX and the 2019 SuperCopa MX; they also reached the Apertura 2018 league final.
In the current Apertura 2019 season, Cruz Azul is currently in 11th place in the standings after accumulating 10 points in eight games, the product of two wins, two losses, and four draws.
La Máquina has also reached the final of the new Leagues Cup competition, where they will face Tigres UANL.
