Santos Laguna vs Pachuca – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

Pachuca took a two-goal lead but failed to hold it as Santos Laguna came back for a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the Laguneros unbeaten at home this season and unbeaten in three overall while the Tuzos remain winless in three.

The game started off perfectly for the visitors, who took the lead in just the 3rd minute. Gustavo Cabral headed the ball into an empty net after Jonathan Orozco came off his line but failed to get the ball; 0-1 Pachuca.

It didn’t take long for them to find their second. In the 9th minute, Edwin Cardona’s shot from outside the box took a slight deflection off Hugo Rodríguez that sent the ball arcing over Orozco to make it 0-2 for the Tuzos.

Santos looked for a response and they found one in the 30th minute. Julio César Furch reduced the deficit to 1-2 with his volleyed finish from inside the box to put the hosts right back into the game.

Pachuca almost restored their two-goal lead moments later, but their would-be goal was disallowed for offside. Then, at the other end, Eryc Castillo came close to tying it up, only for Óscar Murillo to clear the ball off the line.

Then, in the 62nd minute, Kevin Álvarez was called for a foul on Emilio Orrantia in the box, giving Santos the chance to equalize from the penalty spot. Furch stepped up to take the PK, and he converted it to make it 2-2.

The final half-hour was played at a high intensity as both teams looked to grab a winning goal. There were chances at either end, and Pachuca came within inches more than once only to be stopped by the woodwork, but in the end the two teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 2-2 draw, Santos reaches 17 points while Pachuca reaches nine.
