Atlas vs Toluca – Jornada 10 Recap & Highlights

Toluca earned their first away win of the season with a 0-1 victory against Atlas. The result snaps a three-game winless streak for the Diablos Rojos while the Rojinegros have now lost two in a row.

Atlas was looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to rivals Chivas de Guadalajara in the Clásico Tapatío, and returning home to the Estadio Jalisco to face a struggling team seemed like a promising opportunity to do so. The game did not go as planned for the hosts, though.

The teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 as the game approached halftime, but a bit of individual skill gave Toluca the breakthrough in the 42nd minute. William da Silva won the ball in midfield and drove towards the box before letting fly with a shot from about 30 yards out that beat Camilo Vargas to make it 0-1 for the visitors.

Atlas pushed for an equalizer in the second half, and they created chances, but were unable to finish any off. Alfredo Talavera preserved the shutout and kept Toluca in the lead as he made notable saves against Jesús Isijara and substitute Javier Correa.

At the other end, Toluca had a few chances to snatch an insurance goal, with Felipe Pardo having a good opportunity in the 70th minute and then Da Silva and Pedro Canelo finding chances in stoppage time. But in the end, the lone goal was enough for the Diablos Rojos.

With the 0-1 win, Toluca reaches eight points while Atlas still has 13.
