Querétaro vs Necaxa – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Necaxa claimed first place in the table – pending the rest of this week’s results – with a 1-2 away win against Querétaro. The result gives the Rayos three wins in their last four as they bounced back from a loss over the weekend, while the Gallos Blancos are now winless in three.

The hosts started the game off well, although they had made several changes to their starting lineup due to the schedule congestion giving them three games in seven days. Those changes didn’t seem to faze them, though, and they had the ball in the back of the net twice – only for both would-be goals to be disallowed.

It seemed like just a matter of time before Querétaro found a goal that counted, but the balance of the match shifted in the second half. The visitors began to look more dangerous, and they were the ones who found the breakthrough.

In the 63rd minute, Mauro Quiroga finished off a cross from the right with a powerful header to give Necaxa the 1-0 lead.

Then, while Querétaro was trying to regroup, Necaxa made it 2-0 just four minutes later. From a corner kick, Rodrigo Noya sent his header past a diving Gil Alcalá to put the Rayos comfortably in control.

The Gallos set up an interesting finale, though, as they reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute. Ayron del Valle received the ball in the box in an awkward position and knocked it back for Ake Loba, who finished it off to make it 1-2 just seven minutes after he entered the game.

The goal gave Querétaro some added energy, but they were ultimately unable to find an equalizer as Necaxa held on for the victory.

With the 1-2 win, Necaxa reaches 20 points while Querétaro still has 18.
