Puebla scored late to grab a surprising 0-1 away win against Tigres UANL. The result ended the universitarios’ season-long home unbeaten streak and leaves them winless in six overall, while the Poblanos snapped a two-game losing streak with their first road win of the Apertura.
The game started off at a high tempo, with chances coming frequently and at both ends. Jürgen Damm and Alejandro Chumacero were particularly active for their respective teams, but the final touch was lacking and more than one opportunity was stopped by the woodwork.
In the second half, Tigres pushed numbers forward as they looked to end their run of five straight draws. The opportunities came to naught, though, despite their best efforts, and it looked like the game was destined to end 0-0.
But in the 83rd minute, Puebla struck from a corner kick. Lucas Cavallini jumped highest to get his head to the cross, and his header beat Nahuel Guzmán to give La Franja a late 0-1 lead.
Tigres were unable to find an equalizer in the scant minutes remaining as Puebla was able to make their lone goal stand up.
With the 0-1 win, Puebla reaches nine points while Tigres still have 14.
