The game started off somewhat tentatively in the opening minutes, but it nevertheless didn’t take the hosts long to take the lead. In the 11th minute, Diego Rolán headed home a cross from the right to put Juárez ahead, 1-0.
América looked for a response and they took control of possession after falling behind. But despite having the majority of the ball, they didn’t do much with it – although Giovani dos Santos had the ball in the back of the net, the would-be goal was disallowed.
Juárez also had a scare in the 32nd minute, when the referee consulted VAR to see if Rolán deserved a red card, but in the end the Uruguayan only earned a yellow.
in the second half, the Águilas continued to push with little result, until Miguel Herrera turned to his bench. Federico Viñas came on in the 78th minute and he found the equalizer in the 85th.
Henry Martín got the ball to Viñas at the top of the box, and the super-sub made no mistake with his finish, beating Edumundo Vázquez Mellado with a low shot to tie it up 1-1.
Juárez had a chance to snatch the lead back in the final minutes, but Memo Ochoa was able to keep out a late free kick to preserve the draw.
With the 1-1 draw, Juárez reaches 10 points while América reaches 18.
