León vs Atlas – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Atlas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as León came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps La Fiera unbeaten in seven, while the Rojinegros are now winless in three – although they did snap their two-game losing streak.

León started the game off stronger and had several dangerous chances early. In the 5th minute, Camilo Vargas made a good save to send the ball out for a corner, and the keeper followed that up with another stop on the ensuing corner to keep León from taking the lead.

Despite León’s pressure, though, it was Atlas who took the lead. The visitors struck against the run of play in the 17th minute, with Ismael Govea scoring from outside the box to make it 0-1 for the Rojinegros.

That goal opened the game up, and it soon became an end-to-end affair. Atlas was energized and created a number of chances to add to their lead, while León fought hard for an equalizer.

They found it moments after the second half began. In the 46th minute, Yairo Moreno made it 1-1 as he sent his shot from distance past the diving Vargas to level the match.

León went on the offensive as they looked to complete the comeback, and in the 61st minute, Vargas made a great save to deny Leo Ramos from within the six-yard box; then, in the 63rd minute, Ismael Sosa had a golden opportunity to give León the lead as he broke into the box and rounded the keeper, but he sent his shot wide with the open goal gaping.

Atlas had a chance or two to retake the lead, notably a counterattack in the 87th minute in which Osvaldo Martínez sent a dangerous cross to the far post, where it was just barely out of the reach of a sliding Mauricio Cuero.

In the end, the two teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, León reaches 19 points while Atlas reaches 14 points.
